The Technion Campus

The Technion campus extends over a 300-acre area on the pine-covered upper slopes of  Mount Carmel, at Haifa City, in a setting of great scenic beauty. The campus ranges over 100 buildings and is called Technion City.

In addition to lecture halls and laboratories for teaching and research, on-campus facilities include an amphitheater, a physical fitness center, dormitories, post office, bank, student bookstore, a minimarket, cafeterias and a synagogue.

The original woodland has been preserved, in addition to cultivated new trees and greenery.

Emphasis has been placed on gardens and pleasant landscaping, giving the campus all the characteristics of a national park.

Technion's Faculty of Medicine and the Rappaport Institute for Research in the Medical Sciences are situated near the Rambam Medical Center and form a separate campus.

The City of Haifa

Haifa is the third largest city in Israel ,and is located in the northern part of the country. It is the main port of Israel making use of its natural bay ,and serves as Israel's major link to the sea.

Haifa extends over a chain of hills, part of the Biblical Carmel range, which rise majestically overlooking the Mediterranean. Climate conditions in Haifa are moderate, typically Mediterranean with four distinguishable seasons. The following table presents the mean yearly temperature range:

JanuaryApril JulyOctober
Min.(ºC) 811 1915
Max.(ºC)17233028

The rainy season lasts from mid-November through mid-March, averaging ten rainy days a month. With its well tended gardens, acres of woodland parks and miles of bathing beaches, music, cinema and dance festivals, Haifa offers numerous attractions to both its residents and visitors.

Calculation of the SAT1

For students whom have taken the SAT1 exam the following translation formula is applied:
V - Verbal SAT1 score or Critical reading;
M - Math SAT1 score;
Psychometric score = M * 0.67 + V * 0.33

In all cases, where there are numerous grades for the psychometric test or the sat1, the optimal grade will be taken into consideration.

All candidates should get at list 88 in the English section in the psychometric test otherwise they will not be accepted to the Technion.

The "Yael" Hebrew Proficiency Test

The "Yael"  test is intended for examinees who take the Psychometric Entrance Test in a language other than Hebrew. The test takes approximately one and half hours, and consists of two parts. The first part contains questions in multiple-choice format ; in the second part, examinees are instructed to write a composition.

Those who will get less than 95 in the test will not be able to start studding.

In all cases, where there are numerous grades of the "Yael' test, the optimal grade will be taken into consideration.

General Information for Prospective Students Holding Israeli Matriculation (Bagrut)

Dear Applicants,

Thank you for expressing interest in studying at the Technion.

The Technion, Israel’s first university, instructs undergraduate and graduate students in almost every major field of engineering, science, architecture and medicine.

The Technion will consider the admission of applicants who meet the following requirements:

1. Applicants should have a psychometric test .

2a. Applicants should have an official Israeli bagrut certificate, with scores in mathematics and English at the level of at least 4 units.

2b. Applicants have an academic background, as discussed in detail below, and have provided all the documents relevant to previous studies.

Applicant Categories

For the purpose of admission decisions, applicants will be considered in one of the following categories:

Applicants considered on the basis of the sechem grade

Applicants considered on the basis of previous academic background

Applicants considered on the basis of the sechem grade

A sechem grade will be calculated for all applicants, other than those with a previous academic background. The sechem grade is based on the optimal average of the bagrut grades (or, alternatively, the average of grades obtained during the Technion’s mechina program), the grade in the psychometric test and the grade in the architecture test (for candidates for the tracks of Architecture and Landscape architecture).

In all cases, except for the architecture test and the admission test for medicine, where there are numerous grades for comparable tests (bagrut or psychometric test), the optimal grade will be taken into consideration.

The optimal average is based primarily on bagrut grades. Many bagrut subjects entail a compensation factor - “bonus” Compensation Factor). The bonus is relative to the grades; the higher the grade, the higher the bonus.

Results of previous academic studies which are not considered a complete academic background, or grades obtained during Handessaim course of studies may be taken into account when calculating the optimal average, if they improve the average.

The sechem can be calculated on the Web at: http://www.technion.ac.il/admissions

2. Applicants considered on the basis of previous academic background

Consideration of applicants who have studied (or are studying) in an accredited institute of higher learning will be based on their academic achievements and the psychometric grade.

Further inquiries should be addressed to our office:

All applicants must satisfy the following requirements:

In addition, they are required to submit detailed syllabi of all courses taken, indicating the number of semester hours for each course. A university catalog containing the information will suffice. The Technion accepts transfer students only from the sciences (exact or natural) and engineering.

Those who have not studied a year or more at any university should forward their Israeli bagrut.

Once admitted, most of the students are required to take a placement examination in physics. Those accepted to Architecture, Landscape Architecture, Medical Laboratory Sciences and Biology are exempt from the examination.

Under the credit system, the course of studies may be completed at the student’s own pace.

Registration for the Fall Semester (starting in October) opens in January and closes at the end of February. Registration for the Spring Semester (starting in March) opens in September and closes at the end of October.

The academic tracks of Architecture, Biochemical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Biotechnology and Food Engineering, Biology, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Medicine, Materials Science & Engineering, Molecular Biochemistry, Medical Laboratory Sciences, Landscape Architecture, Dual Degree: Physics-Computer Science and Environmental Engineering admit new students only in the Fall Semesterץ
